A combination of Shelby Belford's passions inspired the founding of Shelby Belford Books. She found a way to write, illustrate and share her heart about non-profit organizations and the benefits they bring to the world.
This process did not happen overnight. It started as an idea when Shelby was sixteen years old. She was inspired at a local youth event that revealed the hardships teens in Africa were suffering from on a daily basis. The documentary shown was filmed by Invisible Children, which is a non-profit that is bringing awareness about the ongoing war in Africa and how children are affected by that war. Shelby was stunned along with many of her peers to learn about the terrors teens and children her age were enduring on the opposite side of the globe.
Shelby's solution was unique. She felt that if more people knew about the issues in the world they would want to be proactive and help. So, she decided she could bring awareness to organizations in the future by writing and illustrating books. Each book written would be dedicated to an organization and portion of that books proceeds would then be donated to that organization.
After many years of working on this dream, it is now becoming a reality and Shelby cannot wait to see where this small idea takes Shelby Belford Books in the future.
